TYPES OF COACHING

The types of coaching I provide are based on my education, experience and therefore skill level. I will only provide coaching that I feel fully qualified to give. As both my Masters and Doctorate focused specifically on Adult Education, I do not feel qualified to provide relationship coaching to minors that would be at the quality I would be happy with. If you are looking for a relationship coach for your teens/tweens, I am not the right individual. However, while I will not take on clients under the age of 18, I oftentimes do work with adult clients on improving communication between them and their teen and adult children.

Below are the general categories of coaching that I provide, however, within these categories are unique needs and goals that each client will have. If you fall broadly into the below categories I welcome you to book a 30-minute consultation during which we will discuss your needs and whether I am the right fit for you as a coach.

Singles’ Coaching – Romantic Relationships

You may be post-divorce, widowed or simply single and having trouble in the dating world. Issues in dating range from making worthwhile matches or securing dates, to having trouble understanding why dates never grow into deeper relationships or why all your relationships sour. These issues can be stand-alone or intertwined with the need to re-discover your personal identity and sense of self, and/or your self confidence after a long relationship has ended.

My education coupled with the experience of a healthy marriage for over 25 years mean that I do understand what a healthy and strong relationship is and what it needs in order to stay strong and to keep evolving and deepening. I can also see where those who are dating can change and grow in order to date more successfully.

Deep, strong, and fulfilling relationships can be romantic or platonic and in fact, people who seek relationship coaching to improve dating and romantic relationships report improvements in all life relationships—work, personal and family.

My goal, as a singles’ relationship coach is to help you with any, or all of the following:

  • Identify trends and break cycles
  • Teach communication skills (sometimes not only verbal but also written – such as for online dating)
  • Address codependency
  • Help you grown your self-awareness, and your sense of personal identity
  • Develop assertiveness
  • Address unresolved issues such as displaced anger, lack of trust and lack of confidence
  • Teach conflict and anger management

Together we focus on your present state and your future goals, taking concrete action to help you reach your goals.

Workplace Relationship Coaching

I bring a wealth of practical experience to this area including:

  • Executive roles in multiple sectors including medical, media and immigration and settlement, where I navigated, nurtured and at times mended, relationships between highly diverse members of teams and departments.
  • Adult teaching projects and positions which focused on creating and carrying out communication and presentation courses.

I can conduct both one-on-one and group sessions, depending on the need, and can be hired by individuals wanting to improve their workplace relationships as well as leaders looking to assist their managers or management teams. Goals I commonly work on are negative customer/client/student reviews, issues with co-workers/employees and loneliness in the workplace.

In terms of group sessions, I work with small groups (a maximum of 10-15 individuals), with a shared goal. For example, a past contract included a 4-week long course in Ontario for Queen’s University professors who were consistently receiving below average student evaluations. The course focused on the common goal of improving presentation and communication skills. However, while the issue of negative evaluations was shared amongst the group, there were individual variances in terms of each professor’s strengths and weaknesses and the underlying causes of their negative evaluations. The small group atmosphere allowed me to understand the individual variations and in this way help everyone in the group grow.

General Social Skills Coaching

I love helping clients who want to work on improving their general social skills and self-confidence.

If you are in this category, you may be simply timid or shy or you may be on the autism spectrum and need social guidance. Your goals might be to have more friends, to deepen your friendships, or to have a better social life in general. You may even be hoping to improve your comfort level at large gatherings, to develop your public speaking skills or to project a more assertive or confident self-image.

Some clients are happily married or involved with someone, but still feel that something in their social life is lacking. If that’s you, that’s ok, and more common than you think.

In some cases, general social skills coaching overlaps with workplace relationship coaching as a client may feel loneliness in the workplace or be facing issues with co-workers or employees. It is normal for relationship coaching categories to overlap and as mentioned above, improvement in one relationship category oftentimes leads to improvements in other relationship categories as well.
